Dr. Shay Strong is VP of Engineering at ICEYE, the Finnish operator of the world's largest SAR satellite constellation. She holds a PhD in astrophysics from The University of Texas at Austin, where she studied gas giant formation and climatology using infrared spectroscopy at Mauna Kea.
She spent seven years at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Washington, D.C., as an atmospheric and infrared technology specialist on national defense space programs. She then built cloud-native geospatial AI pipelines as Chief Data Scientist at OmniEarth and Director of AI/ML at EagleView, processing petabytes of aerial imagery daily.
Since 2020 she has led the AI and analytics work behind ICEYE's natural catastrophe products, turning radar into flood and damage assessments within hours of an event, anywhere on Earth, day or night, and through clouds. More recently, she built a new team at ICEYE to focus on defense and intelligence applications responding to changing geopolitics and European sovereignty.
