We asked TEK to introduce themselves to the WiT community. Here's what they shared.
TEK is the trade union and professional organisation for over 80,000 members in technology, architecture and related STEM fields.
Our main role is negotiating the collective agreements that guarantee salary increases and, for example, longer paid parental and sick leaves. We also advocate across society for sustainability and innovation, high quality technology education and increased equity and diversity. Our member services and trainings provide career, legal and salary support to members.
Through our collective agreements, societal influencing and services, we aim to shape a technology industry that is sustainable not just in what is produced, but in the well-being and futures of all those doing the work. Our research guides policy in the right direction to support this.
TEK's goal is to be at the forefront of pushing for gender equality in technology. To do that, it is important we hear the experiences of those we advocate for at events like this. As we represent the collective strength of workers, we also understand the need for events to network and discuss, helping individual voices become a shared story.
Our vision is for a technology industry that finds sustainable solutions to the problems of our time. How can we solve the climate crisis? How can AI fuel innovation without driving up inequality and unemployment? How can we improve Finland's economy?
To answer those, we need a technology workforce in which everyone can take part. That means careers being accessible, regardless of age, gender, neurotype or nationality. A continued push for a more equal and fair industry is needed, as is making sure everyone can gain the best skills possible.
Come to our stand to discuss with our experts the joys and challenges women face in technology and how a trade union can support you. At our workshop, you can dig into the topic of achieving equal pay and fair working conditions.
